Why do I think working in the recruitment industry is a great place to be?

During my studies I took internships, one was a long one in local government working within taxi and pub licencing, it was interesting and it gave me some good admin skills and customer skills don’t get me wrong but I couldn’t help thinking at the time is this all that working life has to offer. I did my work I went home trying to forget about it as much as possible and I went back to do the same thing the next day, I imagined years of the role and I got a bit disheartened. I wanted more from my job, a more all-encompassing, engaging and captivating job that I would be completely immersed in.

When I graduated I started looking at roles and I decided recruitment was the path for me. No more 9 to 5 and working with people who were counting down the hours after lunch to when they’d go home, not more working without extra perks like incentives, bonus or commission, no more dreading the next 40 years of working life.

To me recruitment is all about working with extremely motivated people, do-ers, it is fast paced, interactive and fun. It has pressures yes, like hitting targets but it very engaging. It allows you to be consultative and creative. In a competitive fast paced industry ideas are king, I love having ideas and seeing them implemented and I love managing my recruitment desk. The best part of recruitment is offering someone a job, or maybe it’s the winner trips and endless socials. Maybe to you it will be the client meetings onsite with amazing brands. The role appeals to many because after all who wouldn’t want a clear, progressional career path, a fun bunch of people to spend their day with and to earn a lot of money doing something you love is really what it’s all about.

I have now recruited recruiters for 11 years, and I love the industry and the role as much as day 1. It is ever changing and the career paths are endless. Also remember there are thousands of companies, all different, all unique so make sure you take the time to find the one that’s right for you.
